I have the honour to request your good offices in forwarding to the proper authorities a claim for a refund of travelling expenses incurred in Canada Aring ry repatriation from England to this Colony after service with the Chinese Labour Corps.

A passage was provided for me on S.S."Metagama", which aniled from Liverpool on May 24th, 1919, and reached Montreal on June 3rd. The departure of S.S."Monteugle", my connecting boat nt Vancouver, was originally fixed for June 20th, but owing to various cruses it was delayed. The ship had been commandeered by the Government for repatriating Canadian troops from Vladivostock, and was late in arriving at Vancouver. Subsequently her departure was further delayed by labour troubles in the Port. It was not
until June 30th that passengers were admitted to live on board
ship. The period, then, for which I wish to claim an allowance
extends over 27 days, from June 3rd to June 30th.

To meet these expenses the only provision made by the Repatriation Department were my railway fare across Canada
and the cost of my sleeping berth on the train.
No tickets for meals on the train were provided and
no allowance made for hotel expenses. The claim for 85 gold a day
for 27 days is the rate at which detention allowance is paid to
officers in the Canadian Army, and represents the bare minimum
of my necessary expandi hure,
